My name is Tara Carnright, and I am the elementary school counsellor here at Seisen. In the summer of 2015, I moved to Tokyo from Boston, Massachusetts where I had served as an educational psychologist for five years. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from the University of Connecticut followed by a Masters of Science in education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in school psychology at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. I am very excited to be a part of the Seisen community and to work with students individually, in groups and in classrooms!

Much of my focus revolves around enhancing students' self-esteem/confidence, social skills (to include communication, perspective taking, building empathy, etc.) and ability to cope with stress/anxiety. By targeting these areas of development, it is my hope that this will manifest into greater availability for learning and increased motivation, both of which will positively influence academic achievement.  I work closely with Ms. Maiya, Learning Support Teacher, and other members of the Student Support Team, to develop and implement interventions and accommodations to children with varied learning and social-emotional/behavioral needs.

If you have concerns about your child and would like to speak with me, please do not hesitate to send an email to
